My first day in the kitchen....

This is not a story; it was actually happen to me. This was my first experience as a cook.

My mother never forced me to do things, in which I have no interest. So I think this is the coz why I had never been to kitchen before that day. My first day in the kitchen was when I was in the two to last month of +2 1st year session. Thou we didn’t have final exams (because the both year of +2 had a common final exam); I was happily stayed at home. My mother has asthma problem. That day she got cough from morning. Even she was not been able to get up from the bed. She called me and asked for handling the total cooking part for that day. After hearing this from my mother my bro(younger) had decided to go for a visit to his friend's place. But i was very confident that I can do that very fairly within as little as time she needed. I had never been to kitchen before at least for cooking purpose but sometime when my mother was cooking I was standing next to her and watching all, how she did so I had a rough idea how all the things can make out. With these little ideas I was thinking that everything was very normal and I can do it very easily. So I replied “don’t worry I can do better than you within a little time.”

I was confidently went towards the kitchen but that happens, what was always happens to me when I was entered into the examination hall. Slowly I was forgetting all, my mind had gone blank. I was not been able to think why and where I was going..!!! suddenly I heard some sounds like, when a king was going for war and his followers saying good luck for his victory…I didn’t realize what was going to happen..But I heard that so clearly, was it for me???No it was in the TV. All were watching Mahabharata on TV.Then I was going to kitchen slowly. From the beginning I was decided that I was not going to call anyone for help, and trying to do all by my own. Then I started, first I poured Dal, turmeric, salt, water in pressure cooker and put it on the gas for making Dal.After sometime I was realized nothing was happening then what I was seeing that the gas was not on fire yet. Then all set as per the program. Now the main problem was I had no idea about how much time needed to make Dal. I was waiting for the whistle to running up. Suddenly the water with Dal and turmeric came out by the whistle with a big noise. I was surprised because I had never seen that happens to my mother when she is cooking. Then I ran to my mother and asked about all happen. She told me; surely I gave more water in it. Then she told me the exact amount of all in making a meal for 4 people (as we are 4 members at home).but still I was confused because i had to put salt as per the quantity and taste of the food. I was very intelligent so I put a small amount of salt, if anybody needs more then he/she can add more in it. The rice, Dal, mix veg curry was ready (luckily I didn’t have to face any other problem in making these three items).now it was the time to make mix vegetables vaza. I had already set all to make this, but still the problem of salt here. Here also my intelligence worked out, I poured as per the vegetables. Then all ready to eat…the food was looking very professional (like someone very close to this profession was made this), nice smell, and color was perfect….I was very happy. All set with in… (Sorry I don’t want to say the time, but it was all over by the time of launch).

Now it was the time to serve all, the food made by me…I was doing all as my mother did.My mother gave some suggestions in between arranging all for the launch. Then all started eating. I was waiting for the comment. First turn, was my father; he said that the food is very good, no one can say after having the food that u make it for the first time…but the vaza is little bit of salty. Then it was my brother, he just smiled and asking for more salt for Dal. And for mix veg curry he added both vaza n curries, and then it had the same amount of salt for both (as one of course). My mother she had no complained. Then it was my turn to taste the things made by my own hand. (Well I don’t know how to cook by using the other parts of the body…).And the food was not as I thought it would be. Very unfair, my all wishes and talks were going to hell. It was like someone put more hot water in to a small quantity of vegetables without salt and spices. The food was like it made for a patient who has acidity (for spices) and Blood pressure (for salt).and about Dal, it was like the Dal were skating in the yellow water and saying”bach gayee yaar, isne jada pakaya nahi”. Whatever my family loves me very much so they had to pay for that by eating these kinds of foods, with giving complements. It was really a bad experience of starting my life as a cook. But the food was not that bad that one cannot eat even…it was eatable.

That’s all how I had started my journey as cook. That was all happen in my first day in the kitchen.
